We were delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Professor Veronica Pickering MBS HAC to our Spring Lunch held on Sunday 29th March at Dunstall Barns.
The Lord Lieutenant met many Society guests and gave a fantastic insightful speech sharing her reflections of her childhood growing up on her family farm/homestead in Kenya.
Professor Pickering also made reference to Nottinghamshire’s important history of open field 'Strip Farming' systems still used today in the village of Laxton, and the need to look forward, to continually innovate, and to nurture future generations of young farmers. It was a treat for everyone who attended and we look forward to seeing Professor Pickering again soon.

Society Vice-Chairman, Calum Grant, expressed sincere thanks to Professor Pickering for making time to attend our event where she was joined by two of her Deputy Lieutenants, Tracey Davenport & Alison Bingham Crabb; we are very lucky as a Society to have both Tracey and Alison on board our committee as very active Chief Stewards for the annual Southwell Ploughing Match & Show.
