Members of the Southwell & District Agricultural Society were delighted to learn that several of our dedicated members received invitations from HM King Charles III to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.

Joyce and George Allwood and Alison Crabb were invited in recognition of their longstanding service to the Southwell Ploughing Match. Both Joyce and George are honorary life members of the Society’s committee and have given many years of support, commitment and enthusiasm to the event and the wider agricultural community.  George has led the Ploughing classes for over 60 years whilst Joyce has given equally invaluable support to both the ploughing and horticultural/produce areas of the Show.  Alison, who is a Society Trustee, has been Chief Steward for the Horticultural & Home Produce section for over 35 years and was joined by her husband, Mike, whose also been an active supporter of the show for many years.

The Royal Garden Party welcomed approximately 8,000 guests from across the country, recognising individuals for their contributions to public service, charity work and frontline roles.

It was a wonderful honour for those attending and a proud moment for the Society to see such valued members recognised for their dedication and service.
